We would like to inform you that on February 1, 2023, on the basis of the private clinic “MedClinic”, the second stage of reconstructive and restorative treatment of the defect of the left tibia of Bohdan Mulyarchuk was performed. At this time, traction replacement of the bone defect of the tibia according to Ilizarov was completed. During the second stage, the external fixation device was remounted, the position of the intermediate bone fragment was corrected, a double osteotomy of the fibula was performed in the upper and lower part of the fibula, and the fibula was brought to the tibial fragments. This will allow Bohdan to develop the so-called tibio-fibular synostosis. The operation was successful. In satisfactory condition, on February 5, 2023, Bohdan was discharged for outpatient treatment at his place of residence.
The cost of the second stage was UAH 73,385. Treatment was financed through the ProBONE charitable foundation.
The next, third stage of treatment is planned after 3-4 months and will depend on the data of the X-ray examination, which will be carried out 2 months after the operation. However, during the third stage, it is planned to perform an arthrodesis of the left ankle joint. The need for this operation is due to the fact that during the wounding Bohdan had “torn” the muscles of the outer surface of the lower leg, which ensure the bending of the foot in the rear direction. As a result, Bohdan’s left foot is in a position of plantar flexion (the so-called equinus foot) and in the future will prevent the normal axial load on the left leg and the normal walking process.
The cost of the third stage is UAH 109,075 (approximately USD 3,200 or EUR).
