We would like to inform you that on October 24, 2022, the first stage of reconstructive and restorative treatment of the defect of the left tibia in Oleg Sorochinsky was completed. During this stage, the rod apparatus was dismantled from the left tibia, extrafocal transosseous osteosynthesis of the left tibia according to the Ilizarov method, and osteotomy of the tibia and fibula in the upper third were performed. This operation became the initial stage of osteoplastic replacement of critical defects in the left tibia and fibula in Oleg and created the conditions for Oleg to start moving independently with the help of crutches.
The start of osteoplastic treatment of a critical defect of the left tibia in Oleg became possible thanks to the excellent work of specialists from the Department of Microvascular, Plastic, and Reconstructive Surgery of the Institute. A.A. Shalimov, under the guidance of the head of the department, Ph.D. Simulik Evgeny Vladimirovich, carried out the plastic replacement of an extensive soft tissue defect of the left leg and thanks to the financial support of the ProBONE charitable foundation and its partner of the German association Armut und Gesundheit in Deutschland e.V.
The second stage of Oleg’s treatment is planned approximately 4 months after the first stage. The cost of this stage is UAH 28,842 (approximately USD 810 or EUR 825).
The total cost of the subsequent stages of treatment is approximately UAH 491,000, or USD 13,650, or EUR 13,700.
