Patient Vitaly Vasyliovych Piddubny, born in 1983, private, scout, turned to the “Healthy Bones Restorative Orthopedics Center”. Vitaliy was brought to our center by pain in the right hip and lower back, shortening of the right leg, and impaired sensation in the right lower leg and foot.
In September 2022, during a combat mission in the area of the settlement of Spirne near the city of Bakhmut, Vitaly received a gunshot wound to the right hip with a gunshot fracture of the middle third of the diaphysis of the right femur. He was treated in a clinical hospital in Dnipropetrovsk, then in a security service hospital in Kyiv and the Institute of Neurosurgery named after Ramadanov in Kyiv.
During the examination, Vitaliy was found to have a fragment fracture of the diaphysis of the right femur, which had been fused after metallo-osteosynthesis with a plate, with the formation of a hypertrophic bone callus and a reduction of the right femur to 4 cm.
Vitaliy’s pain syndrome is caused by a significant shortening of the right femur, which leads to improper loading of the right hip joint and a misalignment of the pelvis. To solve this problem, Vitaly needs to increase the length of his right femur.
It is planned to use the Ilizarov method to increase the length of Vitaly’s femur. During the operation, it is planned to remove the plate and part of the hypertrophied callus, to perform extra-focal osteosynthesis of the femur using a spit-rod type device, and to perform an osteotomy of the femur. 2 weeks after the operation, Vitaly will begin to independently form a traction regenerate in the area of the osteotomy of the femur and lengthen the femur to the required size.
The cost of operative treatment is UAH 156,430. (approximately 4600 USD or Euro).
