Patient Severyn Oleksiy Maratovych, born in 1983, a soldier in military unit A2167, turned to our fund.
During the hostilities on July 26, 2022, in the area of Semigirya, he received gunshot bullet wounds to the left thigh and left lower leg with gunshot fractures of the left femur and left lower leg bones.
First aid was provided to him in the city of Bakhmut in the 65th VMG, where primary surgical treatment of wounds and fixation of fragments with rod-type external fixation devices was performed. Then, from July 28, 2022 to September 15, 2022, he underwent treatment at the Volyn Regional Clinical Hospital, where he underwent metal-osteosynthesis of the left femur with a plate.
At the time of examination, Oleksiy complains of severe pain in the area of the left lower leg and foot, swelling of the tissues in the area of the left knee joint. According to the examination data, he has: “Consequences of combat gunshot wounds to the left thigh and left lower leg from July 26, 2022. Gunshot multifragmentary intra-articular fracture of the distal metaepiphysis of the left femur fixed with a locking plate, gunshot multifragmentary fracture of the left tibia in the lower third with a length of 7 cm. fibula with significant displacement of bone fragments. The state after extra-focal bone osteosynthesis with a rod-type device. Long-term non-healing of the wound of the lower third of the left lower leg. Inflammatory osteomyelitis of the left tibia. Pronounced neurotrophic disorders”.
In Oleksiy, in the area of the gunshot fracture of the tibia, all bone fragments are necrotized (dead) and there is an infectious process. Therefore, in order to restore the bearing capacity of the left lower limb as soon as possible and minimize severe disability, it is necessary to use the technology of regenerative medicine, in particular the Ilizarov method, in the treatment of Oleksiy.
The treatment is planned to be carried out in several stages.
During the first stage, it is planned to perform a resection of the tibia within healthy bone tissue, perform extra-local osteosynthesis through Ilizarov and perform a tibial osteotomy. This stage will make it possible to eliminate the osteomyelitis process and carry out dosed movement of healthy bone in the area of the defect of the tibial bone with the formation of traction bone regenerate.
